Worried about break-ins in your area? Want to secure your home, but fear it’s too expensive? Thousands of Irish homeowners are saving money on a revolutionary monitored alarm system.

Traditionally it would have cost from €600 to install a monitored alarm system and it’s up to €1,500 for a standalone alarm. However you can save hundreds by installing this alarm system, which costs just €49. The security system also comes with 24/7 monitoring.

How to deter burglars from your home

Nobody wants intruders in their home, it should be a place for us to relax with our families. You can deter burglars with a decoy box outside the home that states it is a monitored home. A flashing light also helps it, so it’s visible at night, during the long, darker Winter evenings. Burglars are more likely to avoid monitored homes, as they’re aware of the instant Garda response, once the alarm is triggered. This alarm sounds even if someone attempts to break-into your home, so you don’t need to worry about waiting for someone to enter your property to set off the system.

What is alarm monitoring?

Alarm monitoring means that your home is connected to an alarm receiving centre 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, yep, even on Christmas Day! This round the clock protection offers peace of mind, as you know you and your family will receive a call if anyone ever tries to gain access to your home.

When you get a call, you just say your Secure Word if everything is okay, but if you need assistance or if nobody answers, then the Gardaí will be dispatched to your home.

Can it be fitted in any home?

Most alarm systems these days can fit any type of home or apartment. The set up of the sensors will differ depending on whether you live in a semi-detached, bungalow or terrace home for example ,but this system can be customized to fits your home’s needs.

The system is extremely modern. With its wireless set up, it only takes around 90 minutes to fully set up and protect your home. It can usually be installed within 2-5 business days. You won’t need to worry about running wires through your home, anyone drilling big holes to run cables or anything like you’d get with traditional alarms. The wireless set up makes it possible to remotely solve issues over the phone, handy right?

Halloween is a time of fun and festivities, but it is important to recognise that this time of year is typically followed by increased incidents of burglaries. Halloween night is an evening full of trick or treaters, with lots of people coming and going from house to house. If you and your family are heading out to gather some treats, it’s important to arm your system to the Away Mode. When your family are in for the evening and tucking into your trick or treat goodies, set your system to the Stay Mode. Remember the HomeSecure App and keypad have panic buttons, these are there if you require emergency assistance.

For many people, young and old, it’s one of their favourite days of the year, however for pets, it’s definitely a day they dread. Cats and dogs are usually spooked by fireworks, so remember to keep them in-doors. Our system is pet friendly, so once your arm your system, you can keep your furry friends safe, while you’re either out and about or at home tucking into your sweets!

Although this time of year does see a 20% increase in burglaries, 84% of these burglaries avoid a home with a monitored alarm. So as a HomeSecure customer, you are 8.5 times safer than the nations average. We do advise families to be extra cautious, especially around Halloween, but there is always room for fun!

There are a few ways to make your day spooktacular for your kids.

  • Have a go at pumpkin carving. If those skills don’t come natural, YouTube has a huge array of simple videos to help you get creative. If you get them done before trick or treaters arrive, they can be a great addition to decorating your front step.
  • For more old school fun and to get them get a bit of their five a day, you get your kids to bob for apples!
  •  DIY Trick-or-Treat Bags. Get ready for the big night of trick or treating with a fun project. Have your kids decorate their own trick-or-treat bags using markers, stickers, and paint. They will get extra excited when they know they decorated the bag themselves.
  • End the day with Halloween movies and make it a Halloween to remember before tucking in for the night…..

Don’t forget to have some fun this Halloween, but also don’t forget to set your alarm. If the excitement of trick or treating gets too much and arming your alarm slips your mind, you can use the HomeSecure app to secure your home.

Happy Halloween from everyone at HomeSecure!

Cleaning and disinfecting have become a major part of our 2020 lives and while we wouldn’t normally recommend you to sanitise your alarm keypad, it is a touch point in your home or workplace, so we’ve compiled a few quick do’s and don’ts for cleaning your alarm system safely.

It’s important to note at this point your keypad is always installed indoors and as such it isn’t waterproof.

home alarm installation

If you do wish to sanitise your keypad for added peace of mind, we recommend the following:

  • Take a folded piece of kitchen roll or cloth
  • Spray disinfectant spray onto the kitchen roll / cloth
  • Dab the kitchen roll / cloth to remove excess liquid
  • Alternatively, you can use disinfectant wipes

When cleaning the keypad, gently wipe down using your cloth / kitchen paper. If your keypad has buttons, softly clean it without pressing down on the buttons. Be especially careful over your panic buttons.

When you’re done, dispose of your wipe / kitchen roll and leave the keypad to air dry.

Take note to avoid:

  • Never spray disinfectant directly onto your keypad
  • Never use bleach on your keypad

As with any electrical item, do not use bleach or disinfectant spray straight onto your keypad as it could cause long term damage. Disinfecting your keypad or sensors would only be necessary if someone has been in contact with them. If you’re doing a regular clean, a normal dust cloth should be sufficient.

Remember you can always use your app or a KeyFob to arm or disarm your system. This may be preferable for the first few days after you have received an engineer visit, especially if you have someone more high-risk to Covid-19. According to the HSE website, the virus can last on items for a number of days, so your app / KeyFob can help give you peace of mind knowing your home is secure against an intrusion and your family aren’t interacting with areas that someone outside of your bubble has been in contact with.

Now that the clocks have gone back, we’re in the busiest period of the year for burglars. Remember to stay vigilant and arm your system, even when you’re home! Burglaries increase around 20% after the clocks go back according to Án Garda Síochána.

As we continue to Protect Your World in this uneasy time. We’d like to remind HomeSecure customers that you’re not only protected in the event of an attempted break-in, but for any type of emergency. Remember, you have access to Panic Buttons with your security system.

How Our Panic Buttons Work:

When you select a Panic button, it will alert our monitoring station, letting them know that you require emergency support. They’ll call you to get more context on the assistance required and to check if it was a genuine or false alert. They can then dispatch the right emergency service for your needs. If you’re unable to take a call for any reason, they will call your primary keyholder and alert An Gardai to your situation.

Ajax Alarm customers:

You not only have a Panic button on your KeyPad, but on your HomeSecure – We Protect App and on your KeyFob.

On the KeyFob and KeyPad, it’s located as a star symbol. Hold this down to send out your emergency alert. These are ideal if you have an accident while you’re at home self-isolating.

Protected on to go:

If you do venture out and require assistance, remember your HomeSecure – We Protect app has a panic feature.

This will work wherever you may be in the country; you don’t have to be near your alarm system for your In-App panic alert to work. When you select the panic from your app, it will also notify app users, ideal if you have a vulnerable family member who you wish to stay updated about.

We want to protect your world and help you and your loved ones gain peace of mind during this lockdown period. Remember to always set your system to the Stay / Night Mode, to stay protected while you’re home.

Today is Love Your Pet day and we know pets play a big role in Irish homes with around one third of households owning a cat or dog. According to Pet Sitters Ireland, 30% of Irish pet owners have four or more pets!

alarm engineer with dog

We’re big fans of our furry friends here at HomeSecure which is why all our internal motion sensors are pet friendly.

Our canine best friends often feel like they are the ones protecting the home but it’s important that we do our best to protect our furry friends, who are often home alone, when burglaries are most likely to happen.

As part of our home security pack, we provide seven wireless sensors, which is more than enough to secure most Irish homes. The pack comes with a combination of door, window and internal motion sensors.

If you tell one of our engineers that you have a pet on the day of the installation we will make the system work for your entire family.

With our latest security system, our motion sensors use a digital algorithm to detect human movement so your pet can move freely around your home. Our sensors can ignore pets with a height of up to 50cm and weight up to 20kg. So, your pets can roam free without setting off the system, while they wait for you to come home.

dog-waiting-at-door

If you happen to own a large dog or a very energetic cat, it can admittedly be a bit trickier, however we can always find a solution! As cats can jump on tables and counters, they can easily set off alarm sensors. With clever zoning and our handy ‘At Home’ Stay mode, HomeSecure’s security system can be customised to maximise their freedom to roam their home.

When you’re back home, you can set the alarm to Stay Mode and this arms your perimeter sensors, but not your motion sensors so you, your family and your pets can walk around the home without setting the alarm off.

If you want more information on our home security pack and pet friendly sensors, please call 1800 911 731.

December is now here, so if you haven’t already, it’s time to start your Christmas shopping! It’s a time of the year when we’re often out of the home, either shopping or out enjoying the festivities with friends and family. Our homes are also full of high value gifts, which are often stored in the one place. Although home security probably won’t be your number one priority this time of the year, it has to be remembered that it’s historically a time when burglars strike.

With that in mind, the AA recently surveyed over 5,000 of their home insurance customers, asking them about home security. They found that over half of homeowners were more concerned about a break-in compared to this time last year, with one in five surveyed saying they were significantly more concerned that they’d be the victim of a break-in this year. The people surveyed weren’t just worried about themselves, a similar number were significantly more concerned that a friend or family member would be burgled.

AA Director of Consumer Affairs, Conor Faughnan, recommends that you add any high value items you receive this Christmas to your contents insurance as soon as you can.

intruder in home at christmas

The Gardaí have previously revealed that the most common time for a break-in during the winter months is between 5pm – 10pm. This is a time when we’d usually be home, so if you are home, remember to put your alarm into the Stay Mode, securing your home if someone tries to gain access. If you are out visiting friends or family over Christmas, always remember to fully arm your home security system  by setting it to Away Mode.

Not sure if you’ve set your system or not? No problem, you can always check the status of your alarm and arm it from your HomeSecure App.

Remember that HomeSecure customers have been proven to be 8.5 times safer than the national average and that your intruder deterrent box states your home is monitored. If anyone does attempt to gain access to your home, you’ll receive an immediate response from our monitoring station. Interested in securing your home in time for Christmas? Call 1800911740 today!
